In terms of style, it’s fair to say that this single rubs shoulders with some pretty successful South Walian ‘hits’. Like The Blackout and Kids In Glass Houses, Stars and Flights bash drums, riff riffs and sing US emo-pop influenced melodies extremely tightly, with the odd ‘prog’ influence (i.e. irregular time signatures) thrown in for good measure. And, as ‘Angel Squared’ shows, they know how to pen a good chorus. Why said chorus doesn’t return at the end is something only Stars and Flights know, who prefer instead to round off with a lacklustre coda. An optimistic, if slightly disappointing single. JOC
