Pry Cry are a collaboration from North Wales who refuse to be pigeonholed. Intent upon experimenting with any and every style, their newly released album Buzz is a melting pot of all conceivable approaches. A work in progress since 2009, they have layered a plethora of instruments into an extensive sixteen track work. While their versatility is commendable, in their mission to ignore convention they may have lost sight of why bands adhere to a particular style, as the album lacks a cohesive narrative. Often rudimentary riffs covering everything from country and folk to electro and breaks are generally disappointing, and as self-confessed jacks of all trades, they seem not to have developed toward a gold standard. That said, they do show glimpses of quality in what is otherwise a messy assortment. DG
