It’s pretty rare to find a remix that does service to an original, and unfortunately for Cardiff’s Conformist, the trend has continued. While Kutosis’ version of Islands offers a stellar blast of new wave post-punk that will unquestionably shake you up for the good, Conformist has effectively killed the song’s buzz, which one can only assume is not the general idea from an electronic musician. The tempo of the song barely fluctuates between first and second gear as it casually plods along, offering little variety or energy. Let’s hope Islands is played in its true original format from now on. MB
