Though undoubtedly true, the plumber’s daughter struck gold narrative could have easily come straight out of an X-Factor’s strategy and planning meeting. Regardless of this, there’s no doubting Jodie Marie has one hell of a voice. This sultry ballad, when its chorus swells, offers enough room for this to be displayed without it ever becoming too showy. Backed by many anonymous vocalists, Marie’s larynx take on added strength and character. How far she will go is really dependent on how she is nurtured as a brand, but there’s hope that this will be definitely much better than Joss Stone. Hoorah. SMR
