Here’s what we’re listening to at the moment, be it old or new, Welsh or Mexican.
Online editor Morgan Applegarth shares what’s playing in MMP Towers today:
Countdown – Phoenix
It’s hard for a day to go by for me without Phoenix having oozed through my headphones or bedroom speakers. They’re a band that need little introduction, with their fifth – and most widely received – album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix taking Best Alternative Music Album at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
Choosing a favourite from such an accomplished album is difficult, with 1901, Lisztomania and Love Like A Sunset Pt. 2 all receiving plenty of plays on my cd player. However, for me, Countdown might just pip it. The track’s layers intertwine for three minutes to form a subtle crescendo that pays reference to twinkling piano so often found in a Coldplay hit (whom, may I add, are an undeniable favourite of mine from the big stage). Always a winner.
